9 July 2015 (Thursday) - Lunchtime concert with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. No, we didn't skip lunch just for music alone... But we did compromise on lunch time by grabbing a quick bite before heading for the SSO lunchtime concert.
I really miss attending the weekly operas / ballets / concerts back in Munich, so it was great having a "substitute" for the times there. The repertoire for this afternoon is expected to be repeated tomorrow at Victoria Junior College and on Saturday, 11 July 2015 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens (i.e. the newly crowned UNESCO venue)!
The Conductor Mr Joshua Tan. Interestingly he's a Disney approved
conductor, who gave the Asian premiere of Fantasia!
The repertoire for the afternoon was as follows:
- Academic Festival Overture - Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897)
- Overture to Lucio Silla - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791)
- Swan Lake Suite - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsku (1840 - 1893)
II. Valse (Waltz)
V. Danse hongroise (Czardas)
VIII. Mazurka
- Suite from Ben Hur - Miklos Rozsa (1907 - 1995)
II. Love Theme (for solo violin and orchestra)
V. The Mother's Love
VI. Parade of the Charioteers
The SSO at the Victoria Concert Hall
My favourite was the Swan Lake, but the other songs were pretty lively pieces and fun to listen to as well! At the end, there was a little surprise encore from the orchestra - a patriotic SG 50 piece of "Stand up for Singapore"! If you are planning to attend the concerts over the next few days, hope you will enjoy it as much as I did~
